The Ansob center offers both beginning and intermediate English
language instruction. Classes are taught by experienced instructors
and provided during the evening hours so that our clients may
make use of this service both prior to, and subsequent, to obtaining
employment. |

Job
Placement Assistance
The Ansob Center offers comprehensive job placement assistance
that includes individualized vocational assessment and counseling
as well as job readiness training. Staff work with clients to
create resumes, complete application forms, and develop effective
interviewing skills. Clients are referred to employers with
whom the center has already developed long standing relationships.
These employers are able to offer our clients full time work
with competitive wages and benefits. |

Educational
Counseling
Staff provide educational counseling services for clients wishing
to complete their education and/or upgrade their vocational
skills. Services include translating foreign educational documents,
selecting appropriate educational institutions, and assisting
clients with the paperwork necessary for school admission. The
center has helped refugees and immigrants gain entry into the
New York City university system as well as other prestigious
colleges. Clients are also participating in union run apprenticeship
programs, GED preparation classes, and vocational training programs. |

Computer
Classes
To help community members keep pace in an increasingly competitive
world the Ansob center offers computer instruction. Classes
meet two evenings per week for a total of four hours each week.
Clients are taught how to use basic word processing and accounting
programs and to access information on the internet. The computer
lab is also used by the centers' English language and job placement
programs. Students are taught to use software to complete vocabulary
building and grammar exercises outside of the classroom while
job seekers are helped to create and edit their resumes. |

Civics
Instruction The Ansob Center
offers civics instruction for community members hoping to obtain
U.S. citizenship. Two thirds of the coursework is devoted to
the study of American History and Government. Clients must be
proficient in these subjects in order to successfully pass the
citizenship exam. The remaining class time is spent teaching
our clients how to register, how to vote, and how to gather
information about candidates and issues important to them. Staff
help all program participants to complete the paperwork necessary
to apply for citizenship. |
