              The Educational Empowerment Project


The ANSOB Center has launched its Educational Empowerment Project, a program to to help refugees and asylees access critically needed educational opportunities including GED classes, vocational training programs, and colleges.

The program includes individualized educational counseling services, quarterly seminars, and scholarship assistance for refugees who want to pursue their education. For more information please contact us at (718) 278-4303.

EVENTS

Workshop: Going to College  Jennifer Samuals, an admissions counselor from the City University of New York, will be coming to the Ansob Center for Refugees on Thursday May 4th, 2006 at 6:30PM. Ms. Samuals will be talking about the many programs available through the city university system, including vocational training and academic courses of study. She will also be discussing the prerequisites for admission as well as the costs associated with attendance. Application forms, University brochures, and financial aid packets will be distributed at the end of the workshop and Ms. Samuals will remain on-site to answer any questions that you might have.

 

Workshop: Studying to work in the Medical Field  Jennifer Samuals, from City University, will be returning to the Ansob Center for Refugees on Saturday June 10th , 2006 at 3:00PM. She will be discussing medically related courses of study, including certificate and degree granting programs. This workshop will provide essential information for community members interested in studying to become certified nurses, physical therapists, emergency medical technicians, or other medical professionals. Admissions requirements, length of study, and post training employment prospects will all be discussed.
